ispace Mission 2 RESILIENCE

ispace’s “Resilience” lander (part of Hakuto-R Mission 2) crashed on the Moon on 6th June 6, 2025, due to a laser rangefinder used for altitude measurement during descent. The impact was apparently 187 km per hour.
The lander was carrying several payloads, including a rover “Tenacious”, which was designed to collect lunar regolith, which was to be sold to NASA for $5,000 to establish a precedence for rights to space resources.

The ispace contract with NASA was to collect and transfer ownership of lunar regolith, and was an initiative to establish the commercial viability of space resources.
