Location – Chandrayaan-2 Lander – Impact Site
Chandrayaan-2 was the second mission developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) after Chandrayaan-1. It consisted of the lunar orbiter, and included the Vikram lander and the Pragyan lunar rover.
The primary scientific objective was to map and study the lunar surface and detect water on the Moon.
The spacecraft was launched on 22 July 2019, reached the Moon’s orbit on 20 August 2019, and began orbital positioning maneuvers for the landing of the Vikram lander, scheduled for 6 September 2019.
Due to a software glitch, the lander deviated from its intended trajectory while attempting to land and crashed. This registration marks the impact site.
ISRO will attempt another landing with Chandrayaan-3.
