Location – Surveyor 1 – Lander

Surveyor 1 was the first lunar soft-lander in the uncrewed Surveyor program operated by NASA.

It gathered data required for the crewed Apollo Moon landings that began in 1969.

The landing of Surveyor 1 in the Ocean of Storms was the first American space probe on any extra-terrestrial body. As this was the Cold War, it’s important to note this came four months after the first Moon landing by the Soviet Union’s Luna 9 probe.
